The challenge was to close the gap between unhealthy western habits of eating too much food on one side and the shortage on proper nutrition in third world countries on the other side.
Research showed that the perfect strategy in losing weight is being calorie aware. At the same time people take pictures of their food every day. What if we would launch a new consumer product that is based on these very human insights and solve two problems at the same time?
So we created the Give Your Calories app, an app that lets you scan food via image recognition or barcode recognition, and automatically calculates and converts these calorific values into dollar values, which you can then choose to be donated to Action Against Hunger to do your bit for restoring the world's food balance.
