The Year of Engineering is a UK government campaign celebrating the world and wonder of engineering.
From spaceships to ice skates, the bubbles in chocolate bars to life saving cancer treatment, engineering touches every part of our lives. However, not enough young people – especially young girls – think it’s a world for them. As a result, the industry is struggling to recruit future talent. What’s more, young people are missing out on the chance to make a positive difference to both their futures, that of the planet and everything that calls it home.
The Year of Engineering campaign website is a platform for content and that allows partners and visitors to connect. The campaign was developed using React on the front-end, Python and the flexible Wagtail CMS in the back-end and an AWS stack with continuous deployment as the infrastructure. We followed the agile development methodology to be able to meet the requirements of all the stakeholders.
As this is is a UK government campaign, the digital service standards and design principles had to be followed closely to create a product in line with the UK's forward thinking digital vision.
